When I was a student I used to be very overweight and not active. After realizing how unhealthy I was, I took up swimming as a health benefit. Eventually, I had the great opportunity to explore a shipwreck for the first time. It was such an amazing experience to see something that is just frozen in time, and really just allowing you to explore the past, and mistakes of the past as well. For me, my first shipwreck is the World Discoverer, which sits in Roderick Bay on Nggela Island. It was so awesome to explore it, and I felt that I allowed my training to be complete. See ever since I was a kid I wanted to be like Indiana Jones. Now I feel like I am because I have explored over 1500 ship wrecks.
When I first got there I thought “What have I gotten myself into?” It was really overwhelming to see and think that everything was dead and rusting. To be honest (even though I had been assured otherwise), there were many fears I had about the ship toppling over. So what I feel is the most important thing when exploring your first shipwreck is to always make sure that you are safe and comfortable in your own skin. Once I got in the ship I was a lot better and I had a great time exploring the ship! Not only was it a great experience, it was also very beneficial to my health! Swimming is one of the greatest workouts and I loved being able to explore underwater. Sometimes all it takes is just thinking outside the box to be active and this was a great way to do it!
